Beloved Marzipan

by L.A.W

I painted this portrait “Beloved Marzipan” in memory of my wee 14 year old westie who crossed the rainbow bridge last November. This wee soul kept me going through all the uncertainties of lockdowns. My heart aches, I miss her so much, and I find myself crossing roads to say hello to any westies I see. She was a feisty, cheeky, wise, adorable wee ball of fur, loved by everyone who crossed her path.

In deepest darkest lockdown Marzipan went AWOL for almost 24 hours. Despite restrictions countless people searched for her, many who had never even met her. Even a sniffer dog appeared and did his best to find her. Eventually (miraculously) on what seemed like the darkest, wettest night ever, she wandered through the front door, soaking wet, extremely smelly and voraciously hungry. Who knows what adventures she had …. But I’m so thankful she made it home, so she could be loved and warm and safe in her final little old lady days on earth.

I’d say rest in peace …. But really I hope she is chasing squirrels, and making friends with bunnies and cats and curling up in the biggest fluffiest beanbag …. I love you wee puppy. We all love you.
