BPD Labels

by Miri

Written on the underside of these heads are the criteria used when giving a person a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.

This diagnosis in itself can be incredibly stigmatising, especially because of the representation in the media, lack of information and ‘professionals’ following attitudes from their predecessors, rather than taking a step back and meeting each person as an individual.

I am just one person who has been given a BPD diagnosis. I have chosen to write my words on the top of these heads over their shitty criteria. This is how I can experience each of the criteria, and how this feels for me.

If you are working with or know a person who has a diagnosis of BPD, please take the time to get to know them as a person rather than as a collective diagnosis.

  • I enjoy being at the beach, but the sea scares me.

  • I love animals.

  • I really want to learn how to speak Spanish.

  • I have a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.
