Gatherings

The collage is a joint artwork made by members of the Craft Café, embracing the theme of ‘Gatherings’. The Craft Café is a project run by Impact Arts, where older people can be creative and improve their health and wellbeing. Many have lived experience of mental health difficulties, and they empower themselves by being connected and creative.
The collage is made of a number of symbolic shapes (hands, hearts, stars, flowers) plus a number of individually made collages that symbolise the Craft Café in different ways, from teacups to paint brushes, portraits and abstracts. These can all be found at the Craft Café. The collage is deliberately playful and colourful, to encompass the joy and expressiveness of being creative.
The group wanted to celebrate the Craft Café as a place of gathering and togetherness, often in a world that can be quite isolating. The members often describe the Craft Café as a lifeline, that helps improve their mental health.
