Returning
by Jasmine Kate Wickens
The tapestry is made completely from materials and processes I have gathered throughout my 20's; art projects, garment samples from university, scraps from my ceased lingerie business, poems, paper I made from cards, lists and notes to myself - all woven, sewn and knotted into one another to form something new.
A theoretical and physical representation of my spiritual journey and growth into my current 'self', and the hope I hold for the future as I gather and process the fragments of my life so far, releasing them as I approach my 30th year.
My focus for this piece was on the actual process of experimental play and creativity, a meditative and cathartic act, allowing the piece to unfurl naturally without expectation of the final product, as I process the memories and energies of the gathered objects.
