“You’ll still be the only thing I ever needed you to be”

by George

The title of the painting is a quote, taken from the 2021 far-future science-fiction film Dune. It is said from a father to his teenage son and expresses his close bond and great love for his child. I use it here in contrast to what was written to me in a letter from a lawyer in 2022, stating with no explanation, that from now and onwards: “your weekly contact with your son is no longer in his best interests”.

Fathers in marital or partnership separation are mostly marginalised from their children, this is either in a cultural sense, or in a legal semi-bias, and evidence shows that a callous situation for the father and child is taken as normal and acceptable to our self-declared progressive society. This is the sole thing which undermines my mental health presently, my great love for my son is being denied, and our bond has been broken for us. Can anyone help me with this, can anyone help bring my teenage son back into my life?
