Health in Mind: Mindfulness-based Photography Group

by Health in Mind: Mindfulness-based Photography Group

Mindfulness is the practice of purposely bringing one's attention to the present moment, instead of ruminating about the past or worrying about the future. Our group was created to bring people together to embrace a mindful approach to photography. This activity is based on the Tibetan Miksang practice, which means “good eye”. It represents a form of mindful photography that invites people to align their eyes, mind and heart to observe the present moment with intention.

During our sessions, we encourage attendees to slow down and engage their senses to explore the environment from different perspectives with a thematic focus.

These include noticing the interplay of light and shadow, observing visual and tactile textures, highlighting or filtering colours, and discovering unique shapes and patterns.

This activity can positively impact mental health and wellbeing by encouraging creative self-expression and by helping attendees to connect with themselves, other group members and their environment.

The benefits of being in the present moment and spending time in nature have been linked to improved mental focus, increased emotion regulation and a reduction in stress, anxiety and depression.

Through the work of our group, we would like to invite you to be in the here and now and connect with what you are experiencing.
