Trapped Pixie: Societal effects of ableism
by Ragged Bizcuit
This is my attempt at trying to portray the feeling of isolation.
Thinking about society’s view of disability - whether they be visible or not - especially during covid / lockdown. Looking at how much people’s perception of abilities has changed so much during that time - the way people speak to anyone in “the vulnerable section” of society has dramatically changed. i.e. people are a lot more likely to talk to your carer or not talk to you at all because they don’t want to get you ill which can be make people feel really invisible and trapped.
The wings are falling off the pixie to symbolise loss of autonomy.
Materials: Stones, piece of coat hanger, broken spoke from my wheelchair, jewellers wire, scrap metal, recycled plastic, plastic bags, sweetie wrappers, heat gun, fishing wire, wire wing frames, repurposed lace material. All centred within the up cycled cage ornament.
