Oor Mad History: Ten Years On

by Oor Mad History Group, CAPS Independent Advocacy

This book brings together the memories and recollections of the people involved in the Lothian collective advocacy and the ‘mad activism’ movement in the last ten years.

It is a follow up to the first Oor Mad History book which was published in 2010 and captured people’s memories and stories about the mental health service user movement from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.

Oor Mad History: Ten Years On was made by the The Oor Mad History group, who are all people with their own lived experience of mental health issues. They conducted 24 oral history interviews and gathered 10 written contributions from people involved in collective advocacy and activism since 2010. Their voices are presented here in this book with images from the Oor Mad History archive, also from the last ten years.

Oor Mad History are a community history project based at CAPS Independent Advocacy. Set up in 2008, our aim is to reclaim and promote the history of activism and collective advocacy by people with lived experience of mental health issues.
