I tried to be Pretty
By Carla Perera
"I tried to be pretty" explores the physical and mental obstacles faced within a neuro-typical society. There is an overwhelming pressure to present ourselves well and accordingly. Be that in how we look or how we behave. Feelings of frustration are imminent in this piece. This is conveyed through the frantic scrapings, revealing multiple layers of bold and bright colours underneath.
As a CIS woman diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in her twenties and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in her thirties, I consider my journey as a small part of the generational mental health revolution. Slowly we are all breaking chains, one day at a time.
