Embrace

By Erin Colquhoun

A handmade clay body sculptural vase, that was smashed up with a hammer and put back together in the Kintsugi technique. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold — built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art.

This can relate to anyone living through difficult situations that can come out of the other side having embraced own flaws and imperfections to create an even stronger, and beautiful person.

I suffer from endometriosis and often struggle with my health, mobility and stomach area. The shape of the vase created hopefully will represent this in a bold and positive way. I have now grown to accept my condition/abilities and disabilities and hope to raise the awareness that we can all help each other through the difficult times.
