Jacqui’s Sabbatical
by Jacqui Walton
In June 2019 I had to resign from my work, due to long term absence caused by anxiety & depression. At the same time, I was assessed & recommended for a year of intensive psychodynamic therapy. I decided to call this time in my life “a sabbatical”, reassess & acknowledge my life, concentrate on my needs and wellbeing.
Jacqui’s Sabbatical is a series of photographs and images mostly taken and edited by myself which I posted on Instagram, starting on the 1st day of my sabbatical, (the day after I officially stopped working.)
There are 365 images, one for every day of the year, which reflected my thought & feelings during this time. I also spent the time, reorganising, upcycling, being creative, learning new crafts, reading and basically taking time to do things I enjoy!
There are some personal, historical family photographs which I posted to acknowledge my late husband who died by suicide in 2006. These were posted on the anniversary of his death, Father’s Day, & World Suicide Prevention & Awareness Day (10th September), there is also a telling quote which I posted on my wedding anniversary.
Of the inspirational quotes and the few images which are not my own, where possible the name of the creator is included. I also want to acknowledge and give my thanks to all of the creatives who joined me on my journey, hosting workshops, providing inspiration and encouragement during this time: you know who you all are!
