2024 Theme: In/Visible

Some Out of Sight Out of Mind 2024 exhibitors have chosen to use the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival theme ‘In/Visible’ as inspiration for their artworks. The exhibitions Planning Group have also used it to inspire the 2024 poster which will be shared soon.

Here is what the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival say themselves about the theme:

“…what it means to be ‘visible’ or ‘invisible’ when we think about our mental health. Which aspects of our mental health do we keep hidden and which do we feel able to share? How can we use the arts and creativity to make mental health more ‘visible’, in a way that engages people and challenges stigma?

We also want the festival to explore who is made to feel unseen and unheard. How does this happen and what impact do experiences of exclusion and discrimination have on our mental health? Most importantly, how can we challenge the inequalities and systems of power that render people ‘invisible’?”

You can read more about The SMHAF theme on their website.

Not all exhibitors have chosen to make works on the theme, and so, as usual, the exhibits and expressions on show will be as diverse as the experience of mental health can be. We look forward to them all becoming visible at the exhibition in October.

Stay tuned as we share more updates with you until then.
