On 16 January 2025 members of Out of Sight out of Mind Planning Group visited the exhibition ‘Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970–1990’, at the National Galleries. They received a tour from an artist working at the galleries who shared their insight in to how the exhibition was curated. Members could join in the deeper exploration of some of the artworks.

They saw how women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people from ethnic minority groups and others had all raised their voices using art. All mediums were present: films, paintings, posters, photography, performance, zines and sculptures.

Some artworks were made by people who had no formal art training, other made by established artists and by groups that had formed to effect positive change. Issues raised were around reproductive rights, equal pay, recognition as workers in the home, equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people and very many others. The Planning Group noted that many of the issues are still prevalent in our society.

An inspiring trip for the group before they begin the work of planning the 13th Out of Sight Out of Mind exhibition. They will again create an opportunity for people who have experience of mental health issues to have their voices heard through their art.
