φuipu Recollections

φuipu Recollections is a growing sound and yarn artwork developed with participants through online, postal and live collaborations. φuipu knots (pronounced kee-poo) are an ancient method of recording stories, consisting of coloured yarns knotted in different ways.
Our φuipu are used as a metaphor for life, where knots mark defining moments, and reflections which arise are recorded.
This project emerged from a shared, studio space where working together had a very positive effect on wellbeing.
Valuing time spent sharing experiences seems even more relevant since the Covid-19 pandemic began. We aim to help ourselves and others to maintain mental health, self-esteem and wellbeing, through providing safe spaces to communicate, speak our truth and feel valued.
