Self portrait (if I was a leaf)

by Jenny Haslimeier

I found this leaf on a footpath just off the High Street in Peebles in July 2021. It instantly reminded me of myself; tattered, worn around the edges and fragile. It looked like it had faced many challenges in its life for it to get so blemished. I picked up the leaf, and as I admired it further, I realised there was something quite beautiful in its imperfections.

Despite its age and appearance, it still had a lot more to give, as do I. I have left part of this illustration unfinished. This represents the continuation of my own journey which is still a work in progress.
