OOSOOM Uncovered 2020
OOSOOM Uncovered is a ‘meet the exhibitor’ event which has become a regular feature of this annual exhibition. It is often on the last Wednesday of the exhibition and usually involves us milling about the galleries with a soft drink in hand, meeting others.
For obvious reasons we couldn’t do that this year. Instead the event was held online using Zoom, on the afternoon of Wednesday 25 November.
Uncovered has always provided the opportunity to share, listen and come together. It is a relaxed and informal event where exhibitors, visitors and planners can attend the exhibition at the same time and can talk about the artworks or whatever they would like with others present.
The online version of Uncovered began by all being invited to identify and introduce ourselves. We then had a virtual ‘exhibition tour’ from Lan using photographs of the physical exhibition.
The rest of the discussion was guided loosely by those willing to share their work with others by being ‘spotlighted’. Willing exhibitors artworks were shown using the new website, and the exhibitor shared a little more insight in to the artwork. Others then asked questions and offered their reflections.
After this we divided into groups using the ‘breakout room’ function on Zoom. Here we were able to focus our discussions and speak a bit more in these smaller groups. Taking a relaxed conversational approach exhibitors again took the ‘spotlight’ in turn to share their work, and people generally had a good old chinwag in response to it.
After some time, we came back together, and continued with ‘spotlights’ and chatting in the bigger group until the end of the event.
We discussed many things this Uncovered, from COVID-19, to stigma, self-expression to handed-ness. And, although it wasn’t our usual set up, it proved to be just as interesting, thoughtful, and meaningful as ever!
If you would like to share what the exhibition means to you, please go to the What does it mean to you? page on this website and let us know.
Whoever you are, whether a visitor to the online or physical exhibition, an exhibitor, a friend or relative of one, a project partner or anyone else at all, we would be pleased to hear if this exhibition has meaning for you.
